A Tale of Two Cities

June 15, 2009 - Los Angeles after the Lakers' NBA Championship win.

June 15, 2009 - Tehran after sham elections and murderous crackdown on protesters.

“A Tale of Two Cities”

  1. Blogger Secret-HQ Says:

Wow. I'm honestly baffled why these two stories haven't collided anywhere else. (Although, to be fair, I haven't been actively seeking out the connective tissue here.)

  2. Blogger captain koma Says:

There is a difference between these two sets of pics. One is justifiable demonstrating the other is shit getting out of hand.

I'll leave others to work out which is which.

  3. Blogger hendrik Says:

    capt koma

    #1 and 2 justifiable demonstration....riiight? =)

basketball sucks anyway, how can people get so hyped up about it...watch a real sport, like rugby.

  4. Blogger stacia Says:

Shit getting out of hand? Since when does a black man holding some boxes mean it's "shit getting out of hand?" Even the top pic could have an explanation. Try to get some context before reaching conclusions.

  5. Blogger J Says:

Stacia, Its two black men holding several boxes and by the way the white guy at the left covering his face, Id say they are looting, Yes that's shit getting out of hand, WAY out of hand. Over a sport?

  6. Blogger Tedmo Says:

Stacia, when the boxes (with shoes inside) were stolen from a store. Way to try and minimize unlawful conduct - you must work for the LA times.

  7. Blogger Ricky Says:

Please, Stacia, explain to me/us how someone jumping on the hood of a car (i.e. the first pic) could hace a reasonable explanation?

  8. Blogger J Says:

Let me bring to note the previously smashed windshield behind the young hooligan on the hood

  9. Blogger OneMHz Says:

Certainly makes the LA Lakers fans look like a bunch of selfish, ignorant pricks. Wait, was that redundant?

  10. Blogger Ricky Says:

OneMHz - not only was that redundant, but you repeated yourself and said the same thing over and over.

  11. Blogger Ellen Says:

Maybe his hood wouldn't shut. And maybe there was a reallly big bug on his windshield that he tried to swat and he hit it a little too hard. Or maybe, shit got out of hand. Pretty sure theres no good explaination for it.

  12. Blogger KB Says:

Stacia is clearly a Lakers fan/LA resident.

  13. Blogger J Says:

And a lakers fan that doesn't shop at that store no less

  14. Blogger Laurence Says:

Really - comparing yobbos with political demonstrators? It's like comparing pipe bombs with concerned geraniums.

  15. Blogger Daniel Says:

In the words of Goldfinger "F(!)K L.A.!".

Each and every looter/rioter that participates over a f(!)king basket/foot/base-ball game ought to be caned. If someone is that immensely ignorant and undisciplined, they should have their citizenship suspended until they proven to be worthy of it. Apparently they do not appreciate this country or its opportuntiy, unless they can riot.
